The High Valtaro is a corner of the Emilia region between Liguria and Tuscany; it is a paradise for nature lovers who want to leave behind the stress of the city and daily life. The tour "Up and down the High Valtaro" offers four different walking tours to discover the mountains of this uncontaminated area that is also famous for its excellent mushroom “Fungo Porcino di Borgotaro". Everything revolves around the small towns of Berceto, Borgo Val di Taro, Bedonia and Compiano, considered one of the nicest villages in the Parma Appennines.

If You are fond of mountains and if you have a good physical training: the four hikes are in fact classified by the CAI at medium difficulty. Their range is from 6.1 to 12.5 km, with a total uphill climb from minimum 240 m. up to maximum 550 m.

Monte Nero Route; Yellow water lily (Nuphar luteum) route around the Bino Lake; Ciapa Liscia route (from the Passo del Crocilia, through the Tribolata Valley, on the Groppo Rosso to the ridge between Roncalla and Rocca Marsa); Penna Mountain route. The path difficulties will be specified on request.
Arrival in Valtaro (Taro Valley). Visit to Berceto, a characteristic mountain village, with its intact Cathedral representing a very important example of romanesque architecture in the province. In the afternoon, visit to the ancient hamlet of Borgo Val di Taro. Shopping of typical products in the ancient streets of the village, from mushrooms to salami and cold cuts, from typical sweets to Parmigiano-Reggiano and mountain gourmadises. Then visit to the imposing Compiano Castle that set on a rocky spur, dominates the Taro Valley. Mushroom based dinner (if it is the season) in an agritourism or in typical restaurant. Overnight stay at hotel.
Breakfast at hotel. Meet with the environmental guide and transfer to the starting place of the chosen excursion. Excursion in the splendid nature of the Apennines. Picnic lunch. At the end of hike, departure.
