It starts from where it all began, the Birthplace in Roncole, evoking the simplicity of life in the early 1800's, when the “Maestro” was born. Alongside, San Michele's Church, guardian of the organ where Verdi learned to play, thanks to Pietro Baistrocchi. “Gourmet stop” in the adjacent restaurant where you can taste the delicacies of “Bassa Parmense” : “Culatello” of Zibello, Parma ham, Salame from Felino, “Culaccia”, “Torta fritta”, Parmigiano Reggiano, “anolini”...
The historic hall of Barezzi Museum, head-seat of Filarmonica Bussetana founded by Antonio Barezzi, welcomed the first compositions and public performances by Verdi student and then young “Maestro”. It also saw the rising love for Margherita, who would become Verdi's first wife. Visiting the Museum today, it allows to admire a wide exposure of Verdi memorabilia, with autograph letters, portraits, documents and posters. A walk along Via Roma in Busseto, where the Maestro's music often comes out of the windows of the houses, brings back in time with the precious shops and the towering “Palazzo Orlandi” where the “Maestro” lived together with Giuseppina Strepponi. Relax, free dinner and overnight at the hotel or farmhouse.
A plentiful and tasty breakfast to start the day and visit a cheese factory producing “Parmigiano Reggiano” which, as they say, "is not made, it's done!". In Busseto, accompanied by Giuseppina Strepponi... friend, mate, wife, confidant and inspiring muse of the “Maestro”, you visit the Teatro Verdi discovering a story full of episodes of private life and historical facts, almost through a secret door, in the heart of Verdi's places and story .
Have you not yet tasted the sauces and pickles, fit to accompany meats and cheeses? A quick, convivial and amusing lunch in the heart of Busseto cannot be missed!
Villa Verdi in Sant'Agata is guardian of Verdi's and Giuseppina's rooms, of their beloved, tidy and innovative garden, of the collection of vintage carriages. You will find all the locations of Renato Castellani's script and you can walk in the private rooms usually not accessible to the public: the billiard room where the “Maestro” entertained his guests and the dining room from which the “Maestro” admired and controlled the garden.
