In Mantua, Busseto and Parma, sites of Verdi’s life and settings for one of his most beloved opera characters, Rigoletto. Let’s discover Mantua following Rigoletto’s footsteps and walk with him through the streets of the old city imagining to be court jesters. Stroll through the alleys and arcades, once cheerful territory of gangs, lean out from  the windows of the beautiful palaces to spy, as Gilda, in the gardens and alleys who is coming. Imagine to hear the immortal aria " La donna è mobile " by the powerful, haunting voice of the Count of Mantua... Mantua indeed, this jewel of a city, that was cradle of Renaissance and of the Gonzaga court, is now Unesco World Heritage Site for its extraordinary palaces and historic center.

This is a tribute to the beauty of a small town with a great tradition, a strong international vocation and an extraordinary artistic heritage: the Ducal Palace with the wonderful frescoes of Mantegna’s Bridal Chamber, the impressive architecture of Palazzo Te, the magnificent Bibiena Theatre, the stunning St. Andrew’s Basilica designed by Leon Battista Alberti, founder, together with Brunelleschi, of Renaissance architecture. So, discover Mantua and live it as Rigoletto; then move to Busseto to enjoy the opera performed at the Teatro Verdi, right there, in the land of Verdi, a few steps from the place where the Maestro wrote it. Finally experience a music itinerary in Parma, the city of Toscanini, Regio Theatre and Farnese Theatre. And we will not forget to taste all the wonderful typical local products, from  pumpkin filled ravioli to the surprising Sbrisolona, from Culatello di Zibello to Verdi’s best loved dishes…

First day

Arrival in Mantua, Italy’s Culture Capital for 2016 and guided visit to the old town in Rigoletto’s footsteps: Rogoletto’s House, the palaces, the streets, the squares, the Ducal Palace, the Rotonda di San Lorenzo, St. Andrew’s Basilica and the Bibiena Theatre or Scientific Theatre. Tasting of Sbrisolona cake. Lunch at a restaurant in city center with typical menu. Afternoon, transfer to Palazzo Te and visit to the splendid Renaissance villa of the Gonzaga family. Transfer and accommodation in hotel or historic location in Busseto or Parma. Dinner at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Second day

Breakfast at the hotel. Trasfer to Verdi’s land. In Roncole Verdi, visit Verdi’s birth house with the new involving multimedia path and then San Michele Church. Transfer to Sant’Agata and visit to Villa Verdi, the place where Verdi was inspired and wrote Rigoletto, one of his most loved and famous operas. Transfer to the Po river banks, visit to the ancient Culatello di Zibello cellar. Tasting lunch. Transfer to Busseto and visit to Barezzi House Museum and to Renata Tebaldi Museum. Time at leisure or back to the hotel. Dinner at leisure. In the evening representation of Rigoletto at the Teatro Verdi in Busseto. Overnight stay at the hotel or historic location in Busseto or Parma.

Third day

Breakfast at the hotel. Check-out. Transfer to Parma and guided visit to the old city center with special emphasis on music, Toscanini’s Birth House in the characteristic “Oltretorrente” district, the Farnese Theatre, the Regio Theatre, the Cathedral and the Baptistery. Time at leisure to visit the House of Music and the House of Sound. Lunch at leisure in the city center for typical menus or rich tastings. Departure.
