“… The turn of the year is one of the rituals in which music reigns supreme, in a style that far form fading becomes stronger each time.

Every music capital boasts its own New Year's Concert, a very popular and highly anticipated TV broadcast that attracts large audiences. Together with Vienna and Venice, Parma is one of the most loved music capitals, especially for great Italian opera and, in particular, Giuseppe Verdi. But it is also the city of Arturo Toscanini, a worldwide symbol of orchestra conducting: he remains to this day an emblem of Italian excellence, flair and prestige, and defines the character and musical profile of the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic, one of the most renowned Italian orchestras, with a history of almost half a century of performances in Italy and around the world.

On 1 January 2022, the talented orchestra director Lina Gonzales Granados will take the podium of the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic and, together with the cellist Mischa Maisky (considered by critics and public alike one of the greatest cellists of our time, praised for his impeccable musicality), will perform Beethoven's Triple Concerto, Op.  56, with Sascha Maisky on the violin and Lily Maisky on the piano.

The programme will start with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme for Cello and Orchestra, Op.  33, followed by Maurice Ravel’s Concert Rhapsody and Witold Lutoslawski’s Variations on a Theme by Paganini.

The concert will take place in the evocative setting of the Paganini Auditorium, a splendid architectural renovation of a 19th-century industrial complex by Renzo Piano.

Ushering in the New Year in the most joyous holiday spirit while providing a cultural experience of great value, this concert will enrich the prestige of the city of Parma and contribute to draw an audience from all over the world…” (By Fondazione Arturo Toscanini)
