On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the fresco cycle in the dome of the Church of San Giovanni, a special exhibition has been inaugurated, featuring works by the great artist Correggio, including stops at the Monastery of San Giovanni Evangelista and the Camera di San Paolo.
Parma celebrates Antonio Allegri, known as Correggio, on the 500th anniversary of the completion of the frescoes in the dome of the Basilica of San Giovanni. Visitors can admire the photographic installation "Heaven on Earth for a Moment" by Lucio Rossi in the monastery’s Refectory, offering a close-up view of Correggio’s dome.
The exhibition continues to the Camera di San Paolo, a Renaissance masterpiece commissioned by Abbess Giovanna da Piacenza. Here, the multimedia experience "Hortus Conclusus 2.0" explores the history of the monastery and Correggio’s commissioned paintings.
The journey concludes at Parma Cathedral, where Correggio’s dome fresco depicts the Assumption of the Virgin. Visitors interested in exploring more of Correggio’s work can see his altarpieces and other paintings at the National Gallery of the Pilotta Complex.
