On April 19, 1816 Her Majesty the Princess and Archduchess Maria Luigia of Austria, Duchess of Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla enters the territory of the duchy. It was an unstable time in the morning, but at her arrival, "here the clouds disappear gradually without wind whistling, laughing at beautiful serene sky, and so prepare the majestic traveler with a warm welcome to her entrance in “her Duchies" ("Gazzetta di Parma ", April 23, 1816).

A journey to discover the 'Maria Luigia places', full of exhibitions and events.

First day

Arrival in Parma and promenade in the Ducal Garden, a rare example of a royal park open to the public in 1800 by the will of the sovereign Maria Luigia. Inside you can visit the Palazzo Ducale, commissioned by Ottavio Farnese in 1561 and design-built by Vignola, which stands out with its typical 'yellow Parma' for grandeur and beauty. Lunch at a local restaurant of the old town’s center. Afternoon: visit to the Glauco Lombardi Museum, with its historical and artistic heritage of great interest of Maria Luigia of Habsburg and Napoleon Bonaparte. Following a guided tour of the Teatro Regio in Parma, to the discovery of the theater at the time of Maria Luigia (visit to be confirmed depending on the availability of the Theatre). Possibility to participate at cultural events currently on in town and possibility to insert a visit of other important monuments of the historic center. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Second day

Breakfast and check out of the hotel. Departure for the Parma hills and visit of Rocca di Sala Baganza, a favorite summer residence of the Duchess. Not far from the village lies the Regional Park of Boschi di Carrega (Carrega Woods), central nucleus of the Ducal hunting estate, where they built two nineteenth-century villas, summer residences of Maria Luigia (possibility of visit on request). Transfer and visit to the Palace of Colorno, par excellence considered the home of Maria Luigia because it was her first destination. Lunch at a local restaurant of Parma lowlands and visit to a Culatello di Zibello seasoning cellar. Transfer and visit of Rocca San Vitale in Fontanellato, where her daughter Albertina  (born from her story with Count Neipperg) lived.
