Musical theatre, Classical theatre, Poetry, Dance, a wide schedule full of national premieres and international guests for the first Summer Season of Fondazione Teatro Due. It will take place from 22nd June to 17th July 2017 and it will include the inauguration of the Arena Shakespeare of Parma, a unique venue in Italy.

The first event, which will take place during the summer solstice, is William Shakespeare’s Sogno di una notte di mezza estate, realized thanks to the collaboration between Fondazione Arturo Toscanini and Fondazione Teatro Due with the musical direction by Loris Borgogelli and the theatrical direction by Walter Le Moli. The Sogno is one of the most important examples of incidental music, which merges verses and singing, and which interlaces the sofisticated music for Solos, Chorus and Orchestra op. 61 by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.

Starting from this year there will be a section of Classical Theatre, that could eventually continue through adaptations from the originals; this activity will move its first steps with the staging of the national premiere of Aeschilus’ I Persiani starring the great actress Elisabetta Pozzi and directed by Andrea Chiodi.

After the oldest tragedy it will be the round for Aristophanes’ Le Rane, a play that comically guides the audience in a surreal trip to Hades, looking for the truth about the political role of culture.

Poesia in Arena will be dedicated to the great contemporary poets of the world. Thanks to the collaboration with Nicola Crocetti, we will host some of the most important international poets: the Nobel Prize winner Wole Soyinka, Durs Grünbein, Adam Zagajewski, Tony Harrison accompanied by the shakespearian actress Sian Thomas and Antonella Anedda, one of the emerging voices of the italian scene. Every soirée will be made of readings in which the poets themselves will read their poems in their mothertongues, and then the poems will be read in italian by great actors and actresses such as Alvia Reale, Bruna Rossi, Maria Paiato, Elisabetta Pozzi among others.

As a closing for Poesia in Arena we propose the beginning of a trip that goes from Homer’s Odyssey to the Odyssey by a great greek poet, Nikos Kazantzakis.

The very last event for the summer 2017 will be a dance event. Hervé Koubi , a French-Algerian coreographer, nominated Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 2000 thanks to the success of his genius creations alla round the world, brings the show Les nuits barbares dedicated to the cultural origins of the Mediterranean area.
